It’s not hard to lose traffic from your organization’s website during a time that is generally saved for avoiding responsibilities. However, that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing you can do to boost engagement with your website while everybody else is lounging on the beach.  We’ve listed some simple tips that you can work on during the summer to increase traffic to your organization’s website from now into the fall:

1.    Stay on Top of Trends and Follow Them

If you can’t go online without seeing an article or post about something – rainbow food, for example – it’s probably a trend.  The power of a trend is undeniable, it can appear from thin air in an instant and disappear in another, making an impact that can last for months and set off related trends in the future.  The impact of a trend is strong, so staying on top of them and making use of them when applicable is a simple way to draw attention from consumers and bring them to your site.

2.    Spend Time Improving the Design of Your Website

A professional-looking website is key to drawing in and sustaining donors for your organization.  If a website looks sloppy, confusing, or unprofessional in any sense, donors are likely to not take your organization seriously and may be turned off from engaging with future content. If a website looks clean, professional, and simple to navigate, donors are more likely to spend time on your site.  The use of clean, simple text and graphics and high-quality photography is an easy way to accomplish a good looking website that will draw traffic.

3.    Start a Blog

Blogging is another easy and sure way to drive traffic to your organization’s website.  Starting a blog allows you to cater directly to your donors demographic and draw them in with interesting and relevant posts.  Telling unique student stories or writing about an event is a good place to start.  Get in the habit of spending time on headlines and using keywords to draw more people to your page in the future.

4.    Make Use of Social Media

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are the holy trinity of social media. If your organization employs all three of them, you are likely to increase traffic to your website.  Develop creative and intriguing posts that link directly to your website in order to pique the interest of potential donors.  Posts can be quotes from your blog, something interesting your organization is doing, or even an article you believe your consumers may enjoy.  Use one or two hashtags so that your posts are easy to find for people to see and share.

5.    Understand Where Your Website Traffic is Coming From

The most important aspect in generating new traffic to your website is to understand where old traffic came from.  Google Analytics is a simple tool that allows you to do this.  Take a look at the data from your website and take note of the age, gender, and location of your consumers to get an idea of how they came across your organization’s website.  Research the demographic of your target consumer and focus on promoting your website on platforms that they would use.  Once you understand what your consumers are looking for, it will be much easier to promote those things to draw people in.

Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean that you have to accept the loss of website traffic.  If you get into the habit of employing some of these simple steps into your marketing strategy, you are likely to see an increase in traffic to your organization’s website now that will increase into the fall.
